Lindholme Angling Club Festival - Lindholme Lakes, 10th June 2016

Final day...  If I would have a good result today I could make it to the top 5!  I think I piled a bit too much pressure on myself to be honest and today would test me.

The Draw
Peg 2, Bonsai.  Not an area I had ever fished before and I had some good anglers in my section so it was all to play for.  Neighbours for the day where Stuart and Bradley 'Steady' Smith

Set-Up
Pole only, initially although I would break the rod out later in the day.  Another day fishing longer as it was 16 metres to the far bank and 15 metres to my right margin line.

All-In
I figured that the bread working the other day it would also work on Bonsai so I prepared some discs before the all in.  With that and the whistle I started across on the far bank working the bread along the margins.  The action wasn't instant in fact it took some time before the first fish was in the net infact the first fish went to Brad who was fishing short.

Before long Brad followed me over and we had a race for a fish, which he won!  After a few frustrating hours, frustrating for both me and Stuart.  Stuart had lost a
few rigs, now it was my turn!  Fish on and it made a run which snagged me across the underneath the bank.  Pulled for the break and smashed the rig up.

I was hoping to do well on today's match and it wasn't going to plan!  A few choice words came out of my mouth.  So I sat for 5 minutes to compose my thoughts and cracked out the method rod which finally put me back in touch with the fish.  I was behind in the race with the lads and I needed to get back in front so I had to try the margins early.

Priming with margins with groundbait and putting the tried and test worm on the hook the margins soon produced bites but frustratingly the fish were foul hooked.  This happened quite a few times and more frustration was verbalised.

I replumbed and noticed the rig was out by a few inches.  The change put me back in touch with the fish.  I spent the rest of the match in two areas of my margins although I didn't feel I was back in touch with the other lads in my section.

Stuart had pulled some lumps from his margin and Brad has been catching "steady"!

The final hour was fun but the rain started... Stuart, myself and Brad would be weighing in most of the lake.  By the all-out it was tanking it down.  Needless to say the gear got soaked!

Results
Last in section with 29lb... very disappointed but still a good result for me coming 14th out of 50 Anglers


Conclusion
A huge congratulations to Paul Newman for winning the festival again!

Big thanks to Gary for all the organisation and to Rachael and Tracy for putting the bar on everynight.  It was great to make new friends and to see the faces of old friend!

Looking forward to 2017!

In a break from the normal commercials and after sorting all the the fishing gear out and finding a load of distance feeders that simply had not been used I decided it was time to tackle a large, wild water close to me. Searching YouTube and finding some videos by Jamie Harrison and Lee Kerry, Lake Semerwater became the target.  I roped in Patrick from work and Mr Curry an old friend I've not seen for quite some years.  The target was set, the prep was done and it was a very early start from sunny Stockton to drive to the beautiful Wensleydale and Lake Semerwater. Arriving at the farmhouse for 6am and catching up with Rich we headed down to the parking areas to be treated to fish in the shallows and a fabulous morning view. Patrick arrived about 30 minutes later and we tackled the bumpy 100 metre walk to where the stream fed into the lake. Renny Lakes, East Harlsey, 14th May 2023

Well the second trip out in 2023, the first one didn’t go as planned, I didn’t take to many photographs we didn’t catch any fish and I didn’t write a blog post about it… sorry about that. So the fishing whatsapp group voted for a day on Renny Lakes which didn’t mean too much of a long drive for Mr Curry or the rest of us. I’d also invited Sam along, Sam last fished back in 2016 so a great chance for him to get hooked a second time so to speak! The Pegs Renny Lakes has changed from a three lake complex back to two lakes. So a quick walk round the larger lake we found three pegs next to each other with islands and open water to go at. Set-Up I’d brought two rods with me for a simple days fishing while coaching Sam. A waggler rod and a feeder rod with a micro hybrid feeder on. Lake Semerwater, Wensleydale, 13th November 2022

After a very enjoyable trip in May and Jack wanting to learn a bit of feeder fishing together with the weather for November looking pretty good, our little fishing group headed back to Wensleydale and the fantastic Lake Semerwater.  The only one missing was Mr Curry who was on a promise?!   Watching the weather in the lead-up to the weekend it was looking like a great day ahead, overcast, no rain, constant air pressure however maybe a little windy. The Sunday morning drive to get to the lake for first light was very foggy with some rain, had the weather got it wrong? The Pegs Arriving at the lake, it looked fantastic, the water level was a lot higher than the May trip and there was a clear “tide” mark higher up the bank where the level had been some days before.  There was already a pike angler in the area that we wanted to fish however enough room between him and the river inlet for us to get two boxes in the water without disturbing each other.  Set-up When I gr
